LINCOLN, NE – Free market advocacy group Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska applauds Gov. Dave Heineman for his decision to refuse implementing a state health exchange under the Affordable Care Act.
“Gov. Heineman is correct in pointing out a state health exchange under the President’s health care law will cost Nebraska too much money, while giving state governments no significant degree of flexibility in administering the program. The governor made the right call for Nebraska’s taxpayers,” said state director Brad Stevens.
“The term state exchange is a farce. Gov. Heineman was accurate in describing both the state exchange and federal exchange as being driven by the federal government with no significant degree of flexibility for state government. Practically, there was no option for Nebraska to truly administer its own exchange under the President’s health care model. We applaud Gov. Heineman for his leadership and making the right call for Nebraska,” continued Stevens.
Gov. Heineman pointed out at his news conference that by refusing to operate a state exchange Nebraska taxpayers will save $470 million over the next eight year.
