The Benefits of Local Ed. Standards

September 06, 2013

We have been spending a lot of time on education and, specifically, Common Core at AFP-NE.  The Lincoln Journal Star published an article today discussing our state’s math standards compared to the standards in Common Core.

While Common Core covers some concepts early, the Nebraska standards go more in-depth into concepts.

What’s the take away?  We Nebraskans can and does make good curriculum choices for our children and do not need a national standard that removes local control.  By not being a part of Common Core we can adjust as need, instead of being stuck with a “one size fits all” set of standards.

Send your State Board of Education representative a note about keeping Common Core out of Nebraska and keeping local control over our kids education.
