Proposed Omaha Sewer Rates will put Citizens Under Water
Last Thursday the Omaha World Herald reported that “[t]he Omaha City Council next week will begin considering a proposal from Mayor Jean Stothert to raise city residential sewer use fees a total of about 45 percent over the next four years”.
Stothert has been saddled with an issue her predecessor, Mayor Suttle, did not deal with. In March of 2013 we noted that other cities across the county have been able to negotiate better deals with the EPA. Yet Suttle never acted.
City officials seem to believe their backs are against the wall. Mandates from the Obama Administration’s EPA are putting our backs against the wall.
City officials need to demand a renegotiation of the project, just as Portland, Chicago, and others have done.
