What a Wednesday!

February 28, 2013

February 27, was quite the day.  First, we testified in support of Sen. Chambers (you read that right) and his bill to eliminate the .5% local option sales tax.  As Nebraska Watchdog writer, Deena Winter, stated, “politics makes strange bedfellows.”  You can read about the hearing below:

Kearney Hub, “Sen. Chambers pushes for repeal of sales tax law”

Grand Island Independent, “Neb. lawmaker pushes for repeal of sales tax law”

Nebraska Watchdog, “Chambers: Repeal sales tax option or I’ll fight tax reform study”

“What you saw [at the hearing] were individuals representing cites and municipalities,” Chambers said after city officials testified. “Not one was speaking on behalf of the people who will bear this tax.”  No one but Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska.

Following the LB 266 hearing,  State Director Brad Stevens was on KLIN Drive Time Lincoln and KHAS radio Hastings talking about Medicaid expansion.  You can listen to his conversation with DTL’s Kevin Thomas here.

Finally, we finished the day with our Legislative Coffee in Lincoln.

Attendees look on as Matt Litt, Deputy Director, discusses the Nebraska legislative session

Don’t forget about our Taxpayer Day at the Capital
