Charter schools are practical tools that give parents the power and freedom to choose the child’s education, better serving students’ needs and priorities. They allow parents to choose a district, charter, or private school– regardless of residence and location.
Montana is one of only 10 states that have yet to pass charter school legislation. Montana offers only limited choice within its public education system but does offer inter-district and intra-district public school choice.
Other states have demonstrated that competition in the educational marketplace is healthy and strengthens both public and private education. Simply put, competition and school choice is best for the students they serve. Montana should allow lower-income parents the same ability that wealthier parents now have in selecting the school of their choice.
