Carbon taxes are disastrous for the economy. These taxes are regressive taxes, meaning they affect lower and middle income families far more than the rich, because they cause the cost of gas, heating, and electricity to rise sharply, which the rich can afford but everyone else cannot.
These taxes will be coming directly out of your budget. This is money that should remain in your pocket and feeding your families. Not only that, but reports show that these taxes will have a minimal effect on global carbon production.
Also, these taxes will cause layoffs in the power industry as businesses are forced to cut costs to maintain their operations. None of these are affordable outcomes for Montana as we recover from the recession. Let’s make our voices heard that we need economic growth not superfluous taxes.
