June 11, 2012

Joe Balyeat, Montana State Director for Americans for Prosperity, is a lifelong Montanan with an extensive career in both the public and the private sector. He has served in the Montana legislature for 12 years both in the House and the Senate. He was the chairman and vice-chairman for a variety of committees including the Senate Business, Labor, & Economic Affairs Committee and the Legislative Audit Committee.

During his legislative tenure, Joe Balyeat crafted bills to reduce and simplify Montana income taxes, reform education, cut government spending, reform government pensions and reduce deficits, and several good government bills that continue to save millions of taxpayer dollars – No golden parachutes for bureaucrats, no “pay to play” government contract cronyism, and no government grants that force us taxpayers to cover overhead

Balyeat is also a national award-winning Certified Public Accountant (received Elijah Watts Sells Award for performance with high distinction on CPA exam) and has had a successful small business northeast of Belgrade for 34 years. He has also authored two books, and written numerous articles advocating limitations on the scope and intrusiveness of government.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Montana. He resides near Belgrade, Montana.
