Super Bowl Champs or Chumps?
St. Louis, MO – The NFL is on the top of the mountain when it comes to American sports in viewership and in value. Through July of 2013, the 10 most watched sporting events were all NFL games and a whopping 108 million people tuned into watch the Baltimore Ravens battle the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl. According to Forbes, the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens have an estimated value $1.09 billion! With a value like that, the last thing they need is tax dollars, right? Wrong!
It was recently announced that $130,000 of public money are going to the Baltimore Ravens to promote ObamaCare!
The White House attempted to recruit the many professional sports leagues, most notably the NFL and NBA to help promote their agenda, but both declined. The NFL released a statement saying, “We have responded to the letters we received from members of Congress to inform them we currently have no plans to engage in this area and have had no substantive contact with the administration about [the health-care law’s] implementation.”
However that didn’t stop the Ravens from dipping into Maryland tax dollars. Thanks to a Maryland Public Information Act request by Judicial Watch they found that in a “Sponsorship Agreement” between the Maryland Health Connection and the Ravens to promote the exchange program called the Maryland Health Connection. The state will pay the Ravens $130,000 to promote ObamaCare to TV, radio, the team website, in their newsletter, and on the team’s social media platforms.
