Missouri Needs Tax Reform: Override Nixon’s Veto of an Income Tax Deduction
Jefferson City, MO – Americans for Prosperity – Missouri, the state’s leading advocate for fiscal responsibility will fight to overturn Governor Nixon’s veto of Missouri’s first income tax deduction in over 90 years.
Why does Missouri need Tax Reform?
SIMPLE – take a look at Missouri’s economic competitiveness by the numbers:
- MO is ranked 42 in economic growth over the past 10 years.*
- GDP in MO is ranked 47th over the past 10 years.*
- MO went from 7th in 2012 to 23rd in 2013 in economic outlook and competitiveness.*
- MO experienced a REAL population loss in each of the last three years.*
Patrick Werner, State Director for Americans for Prosperity – Missouri said, “The Missouri legislature took a step in the right direction for lower taxes and smaller government, legislative action alone cannot solve this problem. Executive leadership, in cooperation with the legislature, is needed if we intend to turn things around and get this state moving in the right direction again.”
“We can do better than Governor Nixon and his disregard for taxpayers. This session he let his lust for big government status quo get in the way of the first income tax deduction in 90 years. Unless bold action is taken, Governor Nixon’s veto and general lack of vision will keep Missouri’s economy stagnant,” added Werner.
