Missouri Business forced to cut jobs due to Obamacare
Kansas City, MO – Americans for Prosperity – Missouri, the state’s leading advocate for fiscal responsibility and prosperity, continues to call for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare).
May 28, Fox News Channel 4 in Kansas City reported the Superior Linen & Supply company who provides clean linen to doctor’s offices and hospitals would make nearly $20 million worth of cuts due to the lower government payments that are part of the President’s health care plan. The Affordable Health Care Law would require small companies throughout Missouri to pay for healthcare coverage or receive a penalty of $3,000 per year. AFP – MO State Director, Patrick Werner said, “I think we are starting to see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to job cuts and reduced employee hours due to Obamacare. This, on top of all the other federal, state and local regulations, is making it increasingly difficult for many Missouri small businesses to stay competitive in the marketplace.”
Werner added, “Missourians have made it very clear they are opposed to the Affordable Care Act’s mandates on individuals and businesses.” On two separate occasions, Missourians first overwhelmingly rejected Obamacare at the voting booth in 2010 and then again in 2012 by rejecting the expansion of the federal program in MO via the federal government health insurance exchanges.
Following the lead of Missouri voters, the Missouri General Assembly stood up for the Missouri tax payer and business owner by rejecting several attempts to expand Medicaid; as defined by Reid, Pelosi and Obama in the Affordable Health Care Act. However the issue is far from resolved. “After the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states could not be “coerced” into accepting Medicaid expansion, our elected leaders decided that instead of putting more Missourians into a failed and broken system it would be better if we took the time to reform the program first.” said Patrick Werner.
