Join the Coalition to Override Gov. Nixon’s Tax Reduction Veto
Jefferson City, MO – Americans for Prosperity – Missouri, the state’s leading advocate for fiscal responsibility and prosperity is building a coalition of citizens, groups, and businesses to urge the legislature to override Governor Nixon’s veto of the first tax decrease in 90 years.
Americans for Prosperity – Missouri State Director Patrick Werner said, “We are very dissatisfied with Governor Nixon’s decision to veto income tax reductions for Missouri families and businesses. It’s time for Missouri taxpayers, organizations, and businesses to go on the record in favor of overriding the Governor’s veto.”
Werner added, “Governor Nixon showed his lust for big government with one stroke of the pen and continues to display a complete lack of vision and leadership on how to move this state forward. Unless bold action is taken, Missouri will continue to have a stagnant economy with limited to declining job growth.”
The Southeast Missourian recently reported unemployment rose in May and the trend of Missouri lagging in many economic categories continues.
MO economic competitiveness by the numbers:
- MO experienced a REAL population loss over the last three years.
- MO is ranked 42 in economic growth over the past 10 years.
- MO’s GDP is ranked 47th of the past 10 years.
- MO went from 7th in 2012 to 23rd in 2013 in economic outlook and competitiveness.
“While the Missouri legislature took a step in the right direction for lower taxes and smaller government, legislative action alone cannot solve this problem. Executive leadership, in cooperation with the legislature, is needed if we intend to turn things around and get this state moving in the right direction again,” said Rachel Payton, Americans for Prosperity Legislative Director.
