St. Charles, MO – Americans for Prosperity – Missouri hosted a briefing for supporters with Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, Missouri Lt. Governor, Peter Kinder, and Missouri State Auditor Tom Schweich during the American Conservative Union’s CPAC St. Louis.
The purpose of the meeting was to unveil the Path to Prosperity, which will serve as a long-term policy document that will promote free market policy changes that will transform Missouri out of stagnation and into an economic powerhouse.
Governor Brownback highlighted how the free market reforms made in Kansas are leading to a record number of Kansans starting small businesses and driving down the unemployment rate in the state.
Brownback added that, “people act economically rational.” If other states are more economically friendly to businesses and families, folks will move for better conditions. Brownback was tired of Kansas businesses leaving for more economically friendly states and that as governor he wanted to compete with those states to keep Kansans from leaving.
He also highlighted the need for free enterprise and limited government policies to be enacted by at the state level. Brownback said, “The federal government is now broke and broken. You change America by changing the states…You’ve got to have your economic models at the state level.”
Governor Brownback closed with, “It’s not hopeless. This is a great nation. We should provide hope. We’ve got a plan.”
