In the 2013 Missouri legislative session the House passed HB 253 which paved the way for the first tax reduction in Missouri in nearly 100 years! The bill reduces the individual income tax rate from 6% to 5.5% over a 10 year period. This bill will help stimulate Missouri’s stagnant economy by allowing hardworking Missourians to keep more of their hard earned money. The bill also reduces the corporate tax rate by 3% over the next decade to help ease the burden of our small business owners and job creators.
Governor Nixon vetoed HB 253 failing to embrace the free market principles that have launched neighboring states like Oklahoma and Kansas into economic growth.
Patrick Werner, State Director for Americans for Prosperity – Missouri said, “The Missouri legislature took a step in the right direction for lower taxes and smaller government, legislative action alone cannot solve this problem. Executive leadership, in cooperation with the legislature, is needed if we intend to turn things around and get this state moving in the right direction again.”
