For the Record: AFP Makes No Endorsements
Statement on Erroneous Endorsement Claim
St. Paul, MN – Americans for Prosperity (AFP), the nation’s premier advocate for economic freedom, today released the following statement on the erroneous claim of endorsement from Lee Byberg, candidate for U.S Congress in Minnesota’s 7th District.
Americans for Prosperity does not support or oppose any candidate for public office. Americans for Prosperity educates citizens about economic policy on the state and national level and empowers citizens to be advocates in that process.
Despite multiple attempts by AFP’s attorney over several days to contact Byberg’s campaign to correct Byberg’s claim of endorsement, AFP has received no response. While Byberg signed AFP’s “No Climate Tax Pledge,” which AFP encourages all candidates to sign, that is in no way an endorsement by AFP. In fact, AFP includes in its No Climate Tax pledge press releases and on its website a statement that states: ‘AFP does not endorse candidates. All elected officials and candidates are encouraged to sign the pledge and go on the record in opposition to using the climate change issue to increase taxes and grow the size of government.’
Americans for Prosperity calls on Mr. Byberg to immediately cease any current or future representations of an AFP endorsement. No candidate should claim an endorsement that has not been given.
Americans for Prosperity supports policies that increase economic prosperity and freedom for the citizens of Minnesota and America. AFP supports cutting taxes and government spending, eliminating subsidies that pick winners and losers in the marketplace, and removing unnecessary barriers to entrepreneurship and opportunity by removing burdensome government regulations.
