AFP-MI Urges Senators to Oppose Immediate Effect for Medicaid Expansion
Debate did not end with vote to expand Medicaid, group warns
LANSING, Mich. – Americans for Prosperity-Michigan, which has helped lead grassroots opposition to expanding Medicaid, today urged State Senators to oppose immediate effect for HB 4714. The group will key vote, with a strong “No” recommendation, any vote on immediate effect. Scott Hagerstrom, state director of the group, issued the following statement.
“It’s the same tired rhetoric—supporters of ObamaCare want us to rush into implementing Washington’s failing health care takeover. President Obama just waives or delays the parts of the law he doesn’t like. Certainly, Michigan legislators aren’t obligated to meet artificial deadlines established by bureaucrats in Washington, DC.
“State lawmakers may think this debate ended with their vote to expand Medicaid, but we’re here to ensure it’s just the beginning of the conversation. As the failures of President Obama’s health care law pile up, we will also focus on what role our state legislature played to help implement it.”
Americans for Prosperity-Michigan is a statewide organization of more than 87,000 activists committed to strengthening our constitutional government, establishing fiscal restraint, and giving taxpayers greater control over government.
