A Battle Ahead?
The Protect Our Jobs initiative submitted 685,000 signatures yesterday (just over the 323,000 required) to get the issue of right to work on the November 6th ballot.
According to the Free Press:
The issue could spark an all-out political war in Michigan, with the lines clearly drawn between the labor and business communities.
“The war was declared by the legislature,” said Sarpolus, for passing legislation harmful to unions and threatening to make Michigan a right to work state. “If there had been a sign from the governor or the legislature on those issues, they may have pulled back.”
Several business groups today announced they are joining forces under the name Citizens Protecting Michigan’s Constitution to oppose the Protect Our Jobs initiative and several other petition drives they described as “an unprecedented assault on Michigan’s state constitution.”
Along with not having the support of business groups, 7 out of 10 voters support right to work, and are not in favor of the Protect Our Jobs initiative.
