Americans for Prosperity-Michigan Turns Up Grassroots Pressure
Following Medicaid Expansion Vote
Group launches mailers, phone calls, door-to-door activities, radio
LANSING, Mich. – As the failures of Obamacare pile up, the grassroots group Americans for Prosperity-Michigan says there has never been a better time to turn up the pressure on state lawmakers who voted to help implement the law by expanding Medicaid. The group’s activities have so far included mailers, phone calls, constituent letter-writing, door-to-door efforts, radio, and events in targeted legislative districts, including those of Sen. Tory Rocca and Rep. Wayne Schmidt. Click here to view the image gallery, listen to “ObamaCare Yes Man” radio ad.
“The failures of President Obama’s health care law are becoming more and more apparent to citizens,” said Scott Hagerstrom, state director of Americans for Prosperity-Michigan. “Our goal is to educate citizens on whether their state lawmakers were complicit in helping Washington politicians implement this destructive law.”
In addition to mailers calling out lawmakers for “collaborating” with President Obama by expanding Medicaid, AFP-Michigan also distributed thank you mailers applauding those lawmakers who had the “courage” to stand up against pressure to help implement the law. According to the group, thanking lawmakers who stood strong remains as important as pressuring those legislators who caved on the issue.
“Full repeal of Obamacare continues to be a mission focus for our organization,” said Hagerstrom. “We have only begun to experience the destructive power of this ill-conceived federal takeover of our health care system. We will continue to hold lawmakers on the state level accountable if they insist on helping to implement Obamacare.”
State lawmakers could face the issue again this year if they take up a supplemental funding bill pertaining to HB 4714. The group will continue to oppose Medicaid expansion and immediate effect, although it is unclear whether or not the supplemental funding bill would provide an opportunity in which to do so.
“Whether or not the supplemental provides an opportunity for lawmakers to again vote on the Medicaid expansion issue, it is likely to revive some of the discussion,” Hagerstrom concluded. “We will continue to educate citizens and encourage them to hold their lawmakers accountable.”
