House Key Vote Alert: Oppose Medicaid Expansion, HB 4714

June 14, 2013

Dear Representative:

On behalf of more than 87,000 Americans for Prosperity-Michigan activists across Michigan, I strongly urge you to oppose House Bill 4714, which would expand Medicaid and assist in implementing and embedding ObamaCare in Michigan. Expansion won’t come without a huge price tag, and opting out in the future will be very difficult, if not impossible.

I urge you to vote NO on HB 4714. Americans for Prosperity-Michigan will include this vote in our legislative scorecard.

The current system is unaffordable and broken. Doctors are frequently no longer accepting Medicaid patients and health outcomes for those on Medicaid have been shown to be no different and in many circumstances worse than those without insurance. How is it humane to expand a broken system?

Americans For Prosperity wants people to have access to affordable and high-quality health care. Historically, the only way to accomplish both of these objectives has been to make health care patient-centered, not government-controlled. Shouldn’t the patient be at the center of her own health care?

Even with the proposed reforms in HB 4714, coverage under the new health care law is defined not by individuals or doctors but by government bureaucrats at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Join us in resisting a top down approach to health care reform and instead focus on solutions that make health care more affordable and accessible for every American. Let’s not burden future generations with less prosperity and more debt.

I urge you to vote NO on HB 4714. Americans for Prosperity-Michigan will include this vote in our legislative scorecard.

Sincerely,

Scott Hagerstrom
State Director
Americans for Prosperity-Michigan
