Americans for Prosperity-Michigan Calls Senate Budget Responsible, Prudent, Departure from Fed’s Red Ink
LANSING, Mich.—As the Senate wrapped up work on the Fiscal Year 2014 Budget today, Americans for Prosperity-Michigan thanked lawmakers for keeping spending in check and standing with taxpayers, families and small businesses. Scott Hagerstrom, state director of AFP-Michigan, issued the following statement:
“The principles of limited government are not Right or Left. Rather, they are the foundation of what has made America great. Smaller government leaves more room for vibrant economic growth, innovation, and entrepreneurism.
“This budget signals a prudent and responsible direction for Michigan’s fiscal future. Even as the federal budget hemorrhages red ink, Michigan state lawmakers deserve credit for pursuing a different path that does not mortgage our children’s future.
“Lawmakers have so far rejected major tax hikes on gasoline that would negatively impact working families and small businesses. They have also stood strong against tremendous pressure to expand Washington, DC’s broken health care system that borrows against our children and grandchildren’s future.
“No, this budget is not perfect. However, it represents a responsible direction that puts hardworking Michigan families and businesses first. It is also an important departure from the spending antics of our federal officials.”
