Michigan mom tells Rep. Gary Peters that ObamaCare “destroying middle class.”
LANSING — The Michigan chapter of Americans for Prosperity is launching a massive new effort to hold Congressman Gary Peters accountable for his support of the ObamaCare mess. The group will begin running a new television ad today featuring the story of Shannon Wendt and her family, who lost their coverage due to ObamaCare and now face much higher costs after assurances from Peters and President Obama that they could keep their old plan.
The buy starts today and will run for several weeks throughout Michigan on both TV and digital platforms with a budget over $1.5 million.
AFP-Michigan State Director Scott Hagerstrom released the following statement:
“Shannon has worked hard over the years to build a middle-class life for her family here in Michigan. But because of the president’s Lie of the Year, the Wendts have to pay more each month. They deserve to choose the plan that works for them, not to be stuck paying for the endless failures of ObamaCare. It’s been months since we began our accountability effort here in Michigan, and yet there still hasn’t been a word of explanation from Congressman Peters for the damage his vote is doing to Michiganders. Is he ever going to take responsibility and start working to fix this for Michigan?”
The group first launched ads focused on Peters’ position in January, as part of a 5-year, wall-to-wall effort to fight ObamaCare. AFP has opposed the law since its inception in 2009 and has spread the word about its damage through robust grassroots action — phone banks and mail to lawmakers, rallies and townhall meetings — as well as paid and earned media from activists and leadership.
During this ad run, the Michigan chapter of AFP will continue carrying out grassroots organizing and events such as phone banking and door-to-door visits all over the state, to explain how ObamaCare is hurting middle-class families in Michigan.
