Americans for Prosperity-Michigan Members Proud of
Legislators’ 2011-2012 Accomplishments

It can be morning again in Michigan, says group

LANSING, Mich.—The grassroots group Americans for Prosperity-Michigan said its members are proud of what lawmakers were able to achieve during the 2011-2012 legislative session, and hope to see further gains for economic freedom in the New Year. Annie Patnaude, deputy state director of Americans for Prosperity-Michigan, issued the following statement even as a union-backed group subjected legislators to a “walk of shame”:

“Over the past year our legislators showed us that it can be morning again in Michigan–prouder, stronger and better. Our members across Michigan are proud of that record and will continue to stand with their lawmakers when it comes to policies that promote economic freedom.

“Passage of right to work, the defeat of a state-based healthcare exchange, and greater educational choice are among just a few of the many policy victories achieved during the past session. We hope to build on these achievements as we work to make Michigan more prosperous and free.

“We can probably all agree that the eyes of the nation are on Michigan—our members see this as a golden opportunity for Michigan to once again be a leader among states. Our activists will continue to encourage their lawmakers to pursue policies that will help to restore prosperity to our state. At the same time, we will be opposing any efforts to raise taxes, expand the size of government, or increase spending.

“And, we will continue to pursue justice to ensure that our members are free to express their views at the Capitol without fear of intimidation, harassment or assault.”

Note: AFP-Michigan took the lead in rallying grassroots in support of right-to-work legislation. Prior to passage, around 300 AFP-Michigan activists met with their lawmakers to stress the importance of passing right-to-work. Thousands more activists called their lawmakers in support of workplace freedom. Since passage of right-to-work bills in the House and Senate, thousands “thanked” their lawmakers via social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter feeds.
