Wisconsin – A Game Changer by Dave Schwartz
In 2011, Wisconsin Governor Walker, Lt. Governor Kleefisch and state legislators decided it was time for tough decisions to be made and dove head first into the budget process. Right out of the gate, they passed a budget repair bill that made headlines across the country. While the unions and Democrats were busy riling up their base in an attempt to smear the Governor, Walker’s policies were creating prosperity for all Wisconsin residents.

<p style=”text-align: center”>When the pollsters and talking heads look back at how Team Walker won the recall, all signs should point to the success of his policies. Just like AFP’s bus tour slogan states, “It’s Working.” Act 10 was the first step to a historic year that saw a $3.6 billion deficit eliminated and property taxes lowered for the first time in 12 years. According to the non-partisan Beacon Hill institute, Wisconsin’s budget reforms are saving Wisconsin taxpayers over $1 billion annually and have been instrumental in helping local governments cut spending and avoid tax hikes. Despite the protests and petitions, Badger State residents are happy with how Walker has governed – that’s why he won.

<p style=”text-align: center”>This recall election is a game changer. Only time will tell how big of a game change it was, but two things we know for sure: the Walker victory immediately puts Wisconsin in the “toss-up” category for 2012, and it gives conservatives around the country a needed dose of courage when it comes to implementing tough, but necessary free-market reforms.
