Americans for Prosperity Opposes Gas Tax Hike
Regressive tax hike would hurt middle class, destroy jobs.
Despite the fact that Marylanders are still for paying for massive tax hikes enacted during last year’s special session, Gov. O’Malley, Senate President Mike Miller and liberal legislators in Annapolis haven’t abandoned the idea of a massive gas tax hike. Some extremists in Annapolis want to go further and are calling for a job-destroying mileage tax.
“Food prices, energy bills, and the cost of gasoline continue to climb” said Americans for Prosperity Maryland’s Grassroots Director Nick Loffer. “Too many families are struggling because of these financial burdens and the last thing middle class Marylanders need is a gas tax hike.”
Americans for Prosperity Maryland has fought and defeated gas tax hike proposals in the previous two legislative sessions. According to the non-partisan Tax Foundation, the gas tax is inherently regressive and disproportionately hurts working families and small businesses.
