Annapolis Needs to Focus on Contracting Economy

January 30, 2013

O’Malley, leading lawmakers taking their eye off the ball

ANNAPOLIS — In light of today’s news that our national economy has shrunk, leaders in Annapolis continue to focus on divisive issues and have taken their eye off the ball regarding jobs and the economy. Despite lofty sound bites in the “State of the State” speech, middle class Marylanders are still feeling the pain of a shrinking economy. Instead of promoting pro-growth economic policies, Annapolis leaders have spent most of their time on gun control, the death penalty and a massive gas tax hike.

“It would be refreshing to see Annapolis prioritize policies that create jobs in Maryland,” said Americans for Prosperity Maryland’s Grassroots Director Nick Loffer. “Instead, they’re proposing record spending and job-destroying tax hikes that will further damage the shrinking economy.”
