1 in 13 use food stamps in Anne Arundel, 1 in 7 Nationally
A Maryland Gazette news article highlighted that 1 in 13 Anne Arundel residents use food stamps. Nationally the trend has dramatically increased over the last 40 years. In the 1970′s 1 in 50 Americans was on food stamps compared to a staggering 1 in 7 today.
In 4 years the total cost of food stamps, appropriated by the Federal Farm Bill, has doubled to $78 billion. Expanded eligibility requirements have helped fuel the increase costs to taxpayers.
With 1 in 7 Americans on food stamps it’s time for reforms that will safeguard taxpayers from waste & abuse and ensure the most vulnerable among us still will have a social safety-net. We need to get our economy moving to allow job creators to give more opportunities for out of work & underemployed Americans to get back to work.
