Time to Shut Down GSA!
Americans for Prosperity: Time to Shut Down GSA
ARLINGTON, VA – Today Americans for Prosperity – the nation’s largest advocate for economic freedom, is calling for the General Services Administration (GSA) to be closed. GSA is tasked with helping other government agencies work more efficiently and with less waste, but has itself become a symbol of what is wrong in Washington.
News reports of lavish parties, Hawaiian vacations and a Las Vegas conference costing in excess of $800,000 might just be the beginning. The Justice Department has now opened an investigation to uncover gross mismanagement of taxpayer dollars and possible criminal activity.
Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips said, “The excess and waste of GSA, which purports to help other agencies streamline costs, demonstrates a disturbing lack of regard for the American taxpayers whose money they are squandering.”
In light of the ongoing scandal, AFP is calling for the General Services Administration to be closed down immediately, saying the agency unsuccessfully attempts to replicate what the private sector can already do faster, cheaper, and better.
“In the real economy, businesses of every size are held accountable by their customers and healthy competition. Bloated government agencies like the GSA are accountable to no one and cause real harm to taxpayers,” continued Phillips.
AFP policy analysts estimate at least 200 million taxpayer dollars would be saved by closing GSA.
