In states across the U.S., lawmakers are beginning to catch on to the things that the people of Louisiana always knew: parents should be able to choose where to send their child to school. School choice programs produce dramatic results for families and children, using competition and the free market to allow schools to compete and improve the quality of their education, and allowing students to reap the benefits.

In 2011, 42 states introduced legislation to create or expand their voucher or tax credit programs across the U.S. In January 2012, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal took steps to reform Louisiana’s school choice program, providing greater accountability, transparency, and choice for families.

U.S. Senate Rejects Blocking EPA Power Grab; Senator Landrieu bucks party leadership to protect Louisiana jobs

BATON ROUGE- Today, the Senate voted on stopping the EPA’s global warming power grab. Unfortunately, in a 50-50 vote the Senate failed to reach the 60 votes needed to break a filibuster thus allowing the EPA to move forward with regulating greenhouse gases on its own – against the clear wishes of voters and without any legitimate legislative basis.

The good news is that in their votes today, Louisiana Senators Mary Landrieu and David Vitter have said that the EPA should not be twisting the 1970 Clean Air Act into a vehicle for undemocratically pursuing job killing global warming regulations.

Senator Landrieu was just one of four Democrats to vote for the McConnell amendment.
