BATON ROUGE– Today, the Senate voted on stopping the EPAs global warming power grab. Unfortunately, in a 50-50 vote the Senate failed to reach the 60 votes needed to break a filibuster thus allowing the EPA to move forward with regulating greenhouse gases on its own against the clear wishes of voters and without any legitimate legislative basis.
The good news is that in their votes today, Louisiana Senators Mary Landrieu and David Vitter have said that the EPA should not be twisting the 1970 Clean Air Act into a vehicle for undemocratically pursuing job killing global warming regulations.
Senator Landrieu was just one of four Democrats to vote for the McConnell amendment.
Americans for Prosperity Grassroots Coordinator Jacob Luneau said today, I applaud Senator Landrieu for standing up to Senator Harry Reid and Democrat leadership to vote to stop the EPA. He added, At a time when the economy remains weak and EPA regulations threaten to destroy Louisiana jobs, her vote shows a commitment to protecting the people of Louisiana.
We must continue to fight on this issue and to highlight the lack of political accountability over this and other regulatory power grabs Congress has allowed to happen by ceding power to President Obama and unelected bureaucrats. We must hold Congress accountable not just for the bad laws they pass but for the bad regulations they fail to stop.
