The Private Option: Medicaid Expansion by Another Name

In the spring of 2013, Arkansas made waves introducing a “free-market” alternative to Medicaid expansion. By creating the so-called “private option,” Arkansas was injecting choice and competition into the broken, costly Medicaid system. Unfortunately, the “private option” is simply Medicaid expansion by another name.

Below is Americans for Prosperity’s new policy paper outlining Arkansas’ Medicaid expansion model and why it is still the wrong policy for the state and taxpayers.
