Large Coalition to Congress: Path to Balance
The news from Capitol Hill suggests that within the next several days the United States’ debt ceiling with be raised without tackling Washington’s spending addiction. Back in January when Secretary Geithner announced that the debt ceiling must be raised this year, Americans for Prosperity’s 2.3 million activists joined millions of other Americans through groups like, FreedomWorks, Heritage Action and the National Taxpayers Union, to send a clear message to Congress: All increases to the debt ceiling must be accompanied with dollar-for-dollar spending cuts that will help put the U.S. back on a path to balance within 10 years.
In light of these disturbing developments from Capitol Hill, AFP is re-releasing this important letter to remind Congress not to issue anymore blank checks without controlling the federal government’s outlandish spending.
“Conservatives should not raise our nation’s statutory debt limit unless Congress passes and the President signs into law real reforms and immediate spending reductions that place America on a path to balance within 10 years without raising taxes and keeping the budget in balance.”
