AFP Letter of Support for Rep. Lankford's Taxpayers Right-To-Know Act, H.R.1423

August 02, 2013 J

Dear Representative Lankford:

On behalf of more than two million Americans for Prosperity activists in all 50 states, I applaud you for introducing the Taxpayers Right-To-Know Act (H.R.1423), which would require the Office of Management and Budget to produce an annual report card for federal agency programs. Its passage is an essential first step to ensure Washington’s spending is transparent and under control.

Your legislation would require federal agencies to provide cost and performance information about the programs they administer – including administrative costs, the counts of beneficiaries and employees, performance metrics, improper payments rates, and the amount of unspent and unobligated program funds. Your bill would require OMB to publish this information in an online database, and also identify areas of duplication, waste, and inefficiency in federal programs.

Americans will be able to go online and monitor how their tax dollars are spent to hold their elected officials accountable. Members of Congress and federal agencies will be able to use this information to improve the efficacy of government programs.

While the federal debt approaches $17 trillion and federal agencies see unprecedented growth, it’s more important than ever that Americans know where their tax dollars are going. Americans for Prosperity is proud to support H.R.1423. I urge your colleagues to support its passage, and I look forward to working with you in the future.
