Americans for Prosperity on ObamaCare: Blind Ideology vs. Reason & Facts
Today Americans for Prosperity (AFP) responded to the study released by Charles Blahous, a George Mason University research fellow and the Republican trustee for Medicare and Social Security, which projected President Obama’s health care law would boost federal spending by $1.15 trillion and add up to $530 billion to the national deficit.
AFP President Tim Phillips said, “The latest study by Blahous confirms what we have been saying for almost three years – Obama’s health care law is a total fiscal disaster. There was never any honest assessment of cost; basic mathematics was swept aside by big-government ideology.”
The George Mason study comes on the heels of a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) re-estimate of the health care takeover’s cost in the first ten years. The non-partisan CBO now projects the law will cost $1.76 trillion, nearly twice what the bill was originally thought to cost.
In 2010, Americans for Prosperity released several blog posts which detailed the inevitability of implementation costs far exceeding projections made by the Obama administration.
“ObamaCare was never intended to make sense financially. It is emblematic of the far-left mindset in which ideology always trumps basic facts. The American people have rejected this takeover of healthcare freedom, and the U.S. Supreme Court is now questioning the Constitutional authority of the law. It’s time for this deeply flawed piece of legislation to be fully repealed,” continued Phillips.
Last month, Americans for Prosperity hosted a massive “Hands Off My Health Care” rally near the Supreme Court, which attracted some 4,000+ activists from across the country. AFP is currently fighting state-based implementation of ObamaCare in numerous states.
