Keeping New Hampshire Competitive

New Hampshire still has a relatively healthy economy. On a broad comparison with other states, New Hampshire is more economically sound, and maintains a relatively smaller government than most. However, in the Northeast region of the U.S., New Hampshire had the slowest economic growth from 2000 to 2006.

Furthermore, there are 16 other states in the country that experienced a greater population growth from 1990 to 2007. People migrate to where they can prosper. So it is clear that, in some respects, New Hampshire is falling behind.

Under the shadow of a growing state government, fear of economic insecurity grows along with it. New Hampshire must compete in today’s modern economy. That can only be accomplished through fiscally sound policies that attract residents and improve the state’s economic standing.

As New Hampshire residents, we should ask these important questions:
• Is the state economy growing as quickly and strongly as it should?
• How can we improve the workings of our state government?
• How can we compete and ensure prosperity for our citizens?
