Kansas Issues This Week: Education

Kansans Against Common Core is heading to Topeka this week, speaking one-on-one with Kansas legislators about Common Core State Standards today, Wednesday and Thursday. If you’d like to join them, you can email Kristin or Megan for more details.

Also this Thursday, a group of parent activists have put together a meeting to discuss Common Core in the Blue Valley School District. Dr. Mary Byrne will speak at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Blue Valley Library (9000 W. 151st Street, Overland Park, KS 66221).

Dr. Mary Byrne has a M.Ed. in instructional design and a doctorate in special education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has spent the past 35 years in education—her first 10 years as a special educator teaching all grade levels, including work as a coordinator of curriculum, assessment, and accreditation and most recently in differentiated instruction within the regular classroom.
