Americans for Prosperity Applauds Pompeo and Huelskamp for Voting Against Omnibus
TOPEKA, KAN. – The Kansas chapter of the grassroots group Americans for Prosperity applauds the members of the Kansas Congressional delegation who voted yesterday against the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014.
“Kansas Congressmen Mike Pompeo and Tim Huelskamp voted against this bloated federal omnibus spending bill today,” said AFP-Kansas state director Jeff Glendening. “This spending level far exceeds the discretionary spending caps set in the Budget Control Act of 2011, and we applaud them for recognizing that these continuous spending increases completely negate the spending cuts that so many members of Congress fought to implement.
The appropriations legislation passed yesterday in the U.S. House would establish an overall spending level of $1 trillion for the 2014 fiscal year.
Aside from the massive spending increases included in this appropriations package, Glendening cited concerns with changes in the process which rolled numerous budget bills into one.
“The budget process should call for careful deliberation of each and every federal expenditure,” he said. “The philosophy that we should pass a bill to find out what’s in it has not been successful in the past, and it’s not a pattern we should be repeating.
“We’re grateful to the members of Congress – including Rep. Pompeo and Rep. Huelskamp – who took a stand to vote against these higher spending levels.”
