Americans for Prosperity-Kansas statement on tax reform legislation
TOPEKA, KAN. – The Kansas chapter of the grassroots group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) released the following statement in response to House Bill 2117 being signed into law:
“We were pleased to learn of Gov. Brownback’s decision to sign into law House Bill 2117 next week,” said AFP-Kansas state director Derrick Sontag. “This important piece of legislation will provide an immediate boost to the Kansas economy by reducing the tax burden on families and businesses, leading to an expansion of the tax base.
“The move to lower the individual income tax is an acknowledgement of the undeniable fact that low income tax states achieve much higher levels of economic growth as compared to high income tax taxes.
“The inclusion of eliminating non-wage business income on small businesses is an innovative element to the plan that will help lead to an increase in private sector jobs. In fact, estimates show significant increases in jobs, gross domestic product, population and disposable income for taxpayers will occur as a result of passage of this bill.
“Passage of this bill means Kansas can finally reverse the trend of stagnant population growth and taxpayers migrating to other states, all of which came about due to the tax-and-spend philosophy of the past.”
