Wrap-up on Common Core Statewide Meetings

November 22, 2013

More than 80 parents, educators, school officials, and activists attended our Common Core lunch panel in Manhattan on Nov. 5.

We just wrapped up a series of events around the Sunflower State discussing education standards in Kansas.

Thanks to the hundreds of activists who took the time out of their busy schedules to listen to our education panels and discuss their concerns about Common Core academic standards being implemented in schools across Kansas and across the nation.

We were pleased to hear from Kansas Against Common Core co-founders Megan King, Kristin George and Vanessa Everhart, Jane Robbins of the American Principles Project, Dr. Mary Byrne of the Missouri Coalition Against Common Core, Angela Steins with Kansas Catholics for Academic Excellence, northwest Kansas activist Teresa Selensky, and Shane Vander Hart, founder and editor of the Christian, conservative blog CaffeinatedThoughts.com.

All of our events were well-attended by parents, grandparents, teachers, school board members, and school administrators, and we were pleased with the discussions that took place during the Q & A session of each meeting.

We were able to get videos of the Wichita speakers online, and you can find those on YouTube. Dr. Mary Byrne’s presentation on the background and implementation of Common Core State Standards can be found here; and you can watch and listen to Kristin George discuss parental involvement in the issue here.
