As the Kansas Legislature continues to work on the budget during the wrap-up of the 2013 Legislative Session, we encourage you to take a moment to ask your legislator to stop the spending increases in our state.
Over spending has plagued the state of Kansas for decades, and now the debt has begun to stack up. The state population of Kansas grew 13.5% in the last 20 years while spending grew over 100% during that same time period.
Currently, our debt amounts to more than $5,590 for every man, woman and child in Kansas — that is more than $22,000 for a family of four!
Our total state debt is now $16 billion, and it’s still growing.
It’s critical that legislators remain on the path toward fiscal responsibility. They must continue to make cuts in state spending and allow the sales tax to sunset as promised.
