This week, AFP-Kansas had a new TV ad hit the airwaves discussing education spending facts. How are we spending so much on education while education dollars aren’t necessarily getting into the classroom?

  • Last year Kansas taxpayers spent more than $12,000 for every student, Kindergarten through 12th grade. (
  • Teacher salaries in Kansas average less than $48,000 per year. (
  • Less than 60 percent of education dollars actually go to the classroom. (
  • Since 1993, Kansas added more than 4,600 new teachers, but for every two new teachers in that time frame, we added five non-teaching staff members. (
