AFP announces new Kansas state director

February 20, 2013

TOPEKA, KAN. – The free-market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity has announced Jeff Glendening as its new Kansas state director.

Glendening replaces Derrick Sontag, who has led the Kansas chapter since 2009. Sontag has been named a regional director of Americans for Prosperity and will help oversee operations in 25 states, including Kansas.

“Jeff brings to the Kansas chapter years of experience under the dome in Topeka, and I know he is ready to begin working with our activists and elected officials at all levels of government,” Sontag said. “This is an exciting time for Americans for Prosperity, and I’m eager to help Jeff and other state directors around the country in spreading our message of limited government and free markets.”

Glendening most recently was vice president of political affairs with the Kansas Chamber of Commerce.

“This is a great opportunity for Jeff and we wish him well in his new role,” said Kansas Chamber President Mike O’Neal. “We look forward to working with an organization such as Americans for Prosperity-Kansas to continue to promote free enterprise and to improve the business climate in our state.”

Aside from his work with the Kansas Chamber, Glendening has been involved in Kansas politics for a number of years, and has worked on the staffs of legislative leadership, including Speaker of the House, House Majority Leader and Speaker Pro Tem.
“AFP-Kansas has tens of thousands of activists who are already contacting their elected officials, writing to their local newspapers, and acting as leaders in their communities,” Glendening said. “It’s an honor to have the opportunity to work with them to advance free market ideals across this state.

“The 2013 Legislative Session is obviously in full swing, but I’m ready to get to work on harnessing the energy of our 44,000-plus activists in promoting our legislative agenda, and continuing the fight for less government, lower taxes, and more economic freedom.”

Glendening begins his new role with Americans for Prosperity March 6.
