Stay the Course
Dear Iowa Legislator,
As the legislative session comes to a close there is always a whirlwind of speculation and rumors. You as state lawmakers have a tough job. I commend your service to our great state and the sacrifices you make being away from your families. As a new father, I have increased appreciation for the time you spend away from your loved ones.
As your negotiations progress over the next week, I want you to have a clear understanding on where Americans for Prosperity stands on the issues.
• We oppose an increase to the state gas tax. Over the last two weeks we collected over 3,000 petitions from across the state from people that oppose a gas tax increase. We have also recruited over 275 new volunteers that want to help AFP achieve our policy goals. If this comes up for a vote, AFP-Iowa will consider it a key vote and hold members accountable via our extensive and growing grassroots network.
• We want real, meaningful property tax reform. We have been disappointed that over the last two legislative sessions no property tax reform has been passed. There has been a bi-partisan agreement that we need to provide relief to commercial business. AFP-Iowa supports property tax relief for ALL Iowans. Tax credits are not enough. We need a tax reduction that families and businesses can count on.
• We oppose a costly Medicaid expansion. Our federal budget deficit is running out-of-control, largely due to costly spending increases we cannot afford. Federal politicians have a history of making promises they cannot keep. You will only contribute to the problems our country is facing today. Be a leader and vote NO on this unaffordable proposal.
I wish you all the best in the coming days. Thank you again for everything you do. Please feel free to contact me anytime.
