Warrick Co. Wheel Tax Update
Council Looks Towards Vote on Tax Increase

A proposal to raise the county’s wheel surtax is one step closer to becoming a reality.
The Warrick County Council voted 5-2 to allow the council’s attorney to draw up the necessary resolution.
The council will vote on the tax increase at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1.
The wheel surtax, which is paid for by motorists during vehicle registration, would likely increase anywhere from $15 to $25 if the proposal is approved. The increase would not impact older vehicles.
The proposal was first voted down by the county council during its May meeting.
However, recent actions by the Department of Storm Water and the Warrick County Commissioners — resulting in a 10 percent reduction in the storm water fee — prompted the council to reevaluate the surtax increase.
The reduction would lower the storm water fee from $5 to $4.50 per equivalent residential unit.
The decrease, though, would only be put into effect if the county council raised the wheel surtax.
