Hoosier Taxpayers to Receive Refunds

November 21, 2012

Governor Daniels announced today the amount every Hoosier taxpayer will receive as a result of the Automatic Taxpayer Refund.

The Automatic Taxpayer Refund, enacted by the General Assembly in 2011 through the leadership of Governor Daniels, is by far one of the most revolutionary fiscal policies our state has seen in some years.

Sure, $100 per taxpayer is pretty nice, but more importantly the refund recognizes the true relationship between taxpayers and their government. The truth that every dollar government holds is a taxpayer dollar and ultimately belongs to us, not government.

As stated by Governor Daniels today, “Past a point of rock-solid fiscal strength, it’s better to leave this money in the pockets of those who earned it than to let it burn a hole, as it tends to do, in the pocket of government.”

Governor Daniels is right. Rather than increase government spending, we should maintain the fiscal restraint shown by his leadership. We should also look for ways to provide permanent tax relief to Hoosiers by reducing taxes.
