Monroe County officials end consideration of 1% food, beverage tax
September vote canceled; Monroe County Council to explore other ways to fund convention center expansion
After six months of deliberation, the proposed food and beverage tax is dead for now.
The Monroe County Council suspended discussions of the proposed 1 percent county tax in order to review other funding options for the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention Center, according to a news release issued by council president Geoff McKim and vice president Rick Dietz. A vote had been scheduled for Sept. 10.
