Amtrak Subsidy Up for Debate
A lot has been written recently about the state’s Amtrak subsidy from Indianapolis to Chicago. In order to maintain the service four days of the week, Hoosier taxpayers will need to cough up $4 million a year to help pay for the service. Buses can make this trip at a fraction of the cost, and they can get people to Chicago faster than rail can. Yet, some worry about the impact on local economies. A good article on the subject can be found at the IndyStar.
