Indiana Stands for Economic Freedom!
Friday, March 9th marked the end of the legislative session for the Indiana General Assembly. Advancing freedom in the workplace and reducing taxes on Hoosiers were just a couple of the major achievements.
Right to Work legislation, which passed in the first half of the session, has already yielded some positive results for Indiana. According to Governor Daniels, at least 31 companies have expressed some interest in locating to Indiana as a direct result of bringing freedom to the workplace.
Indiana also joined the growing list of states that have eliminated their inheritance (death) tax. Senate Bill 293 passed in the final hours of the legislative session. This law will immediately reduce the death tax by raising the amount of income that is exempted from the tax while phasing the tax out entirely over a ten year period. SB 293 is a major success for small businesses and farmers who often suffer the most under death taxes.
With your help, we were able to deliver hundreds of post cards and nearly 3,000 emails to state legislators in support of these issues! Thank you for your help in making Indiana a better place to live, work and run a business.
Look for these and a few other select votes to appear in our economic freedom scorecard. Economic freedom matters and it’s important to know where your state legislators stand on the issues.
Sincerely,
Chase Downham
