Springfield, Illinois-- Leading the charge to for transparency in state government, Americans for Prosperity and State Representative Michael Tryon (R-Crystal Lake) successfully advanced comprehensive transparency legislation. Yesterday, the Illinois House State Government and Administration Committee unanimously approved House Bill 35 to create the Illinois Accountability Portal.

In the midst of a federal corruption investigation of Illinois’ governor, taxpayer watchdog group Americans for Prosperity (AFP-IL) urges state lawmakers to enact legislation that will significantly increase transparency in how taxpayer dollars are spent.

Another strand in the web of corruption between Gov. Blagojevich and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has been exposed. Almost lost in the din over the governor’s pay-to-play scandal for President-Elect Obama’s vacant senate seat is the fact that SEIU was striding along next to him every step of the way.

AFP calls for an end to rampant corruption in Illinois government


CHICAGO—Americans for Prosperity-Illinois (AFP-IL) is disappointed at the revelation that Gov. Blagojevich abused his office for personal and political gain. Transparency is at the very core of good governance and until we put these reforms in place we should not be surprised at the corruption in Springfield.
