AMERICANS FOR PROSPERITY REACTS TO NEW EPA RULES
“Administration Destroying Jobs for No Clear Environmental Benefit”
SPRINGFIELD – Today Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s largest grassroots advocate for free market energy policies, reacted to new carbon regulations released by the EPA, which calls for a 30 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. The regulations will be particularly burdensome in Illinois, where coal produces more than 45% of the state’s electricity and employs over 12,000 workers. A recent report from the US Chamber of Commerce found that the proposed rule will destroy 32,000 jobs in the region and hundreds of thousands of jobs nationally, based on its assumptions on a similar proposal by the Natural Resources Defense Council. AFP – Illinois State Director David From released the following statement: “Today the Obama Administration has put global-warming ideology ahead of the interests of hardworking taxpayers. These rules will have a particularly devastating impact on the thousands of Illinoisans who are employed in coal and the many more who heat and cool their homes through coal power. Even worse, this proposal comes just days after it was revealed that last quarter the U.S. economy actually shrank for the first time in three years. “The real tragedy is that the administration admits the regulations are “unlikely” to have any meaningful impact on the environment. The Obama EPA is apparently willing to destroy jobs just for the sake of ideological opposition to carbon-based energy.” For further information or an interview, please contact David From at firstname.lastname@example.org or (312)465-0407
