AFP Blasts Senator Boxer for Slamming Cap-and-Trade through Senate Committee Today

- Free market group says health care used as cover for energy tax -

WASHINGTON – The free market grassroots organization Americans for Prosperity (AFP) today chastised California Democratic Senator and chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee Barbara Boxer for pulling a fast one on the American people. The timing of the markup was an outrage considering the massive government takeover of health care that is in full swing in both chambers. Boxer passed the bill out of committee over the opposition and boycott of all seven of the committee’s Republicans.

"Consumer Option" is "Not an Option"

Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in Congress tried to re-brand the wildly unpopular and conspicuous “public option” as the softer sounding “consumer option.” The unfortunate part is that the consumer option is neither for the consumer, nor will it eventually be option.

Will Boxer get away with a cap-and-trade fast one?

Phil Kerpen
November 3, 2009

With the country focused on today’s elections and the ongoing circus-like attempt of Washington to take over our health care, Sen. Barbara Boxer is trying to pull a fast one on cap-and-trade, forcing her outrageous Boxer-Kerry energy ration and tax scheme through the Senate Environment and Public Workers (EPW) Committee this week, while the country is focused on health care. She thinks the American people won’t notice that she is trying to quietly jump-the-gun on legislation that could amount to the biggest tax increase in American history without even waiting for the EPA to run its models and release its official (and almost certainly unrealistically low) estimate of the cost of the bill and its effect on emissions.

Read the rest here.

On Thursday, Speaker Pelosi (D-Calif.) unveiled the most dramatic and costly healthcare bill in the history of this country. Instead of moderating the proposals after months of mounting opposition from the American public, the final bill amounts to an ultimatum.

Government: Spend Now, Hope for the Best

In my Tuesday post, I discussed how government is addicted to gambling with your money. Today, the focus is on why they are addicted. Americans are naturally optimistic. We live in the most prosperous and free country in the world. Of course our economy has its ups and downs, but when examined over generations, the growth has been continuous.

From the road in Arkansas with John Stossel

While speaker Pelosi unveiled her final health care takeover bill in the House, I'm here on the road with Fox New's John Stossel holding town hall meetings to urge folks to keep up the fight against a government takeover of health care.

At 7am this morning-- yes I said 7am--345 activists joined us bright and early in Texarkana for a rousing town hall meeting. We were in the district of Congressional Blue Dog leader Mike Ross, and hundreds of folks signed the “Hands Off My Health Care” petition urging Congressman Ross to do the right thing for Arkansas.

Hot Air Tour Update: Sen. Graham Not Supporting Cap-and-Trade at This Point

This morning we wrapped up three days of exciting and successful events in South Carolina as part of our Hot Air Tour to let Senator Lindsey Graham hear from thousands of his constituents on the issue of cap-and-trade. As you may know, Senator Graham joined Massachusetts Senator John Kerry in an op ed supporting the job killing, tax increasing cap-and-trade policies.

So, we brought our AFP Hot Air Tour to the Palmetto State for events in Spartanburg, Columbia, Mt. Pleasant/Charleston and finally Myrtle Beach this morning.

Subprime Healthcare

The Great Recession of 2008 exposed the dangers that occur when government distorts markets on an economy-wide scale. Banks seized on government guidance to give out risky, sub-prime loans to borrowers that would never pay them back. Without the tax breaks and comparative advantages provided by the government, these loans would never have been granted.
