AFP Set To Launch Georgians For Forfeiture Reform Coalition on Feb 12th

This is shocking! In Georgia, law enforcement can actually take your property on suspicion that it might have been used in the commission of a crime, forfeit it and take the proceeds for the local police station without even getting you on a conviction. And right now, even if you’re eventually found innocent, they can often keep the proceeds of YOUR forfeited assets. It’s not right, it needs to change and we need your help to do it! A new piece of legislation, Georgia House Bill 1, would raise the reporting requirements any time someone in law enforcement tries to take private property and create more transparency and public accountability. It doesn’t go far enough, but it’s a good start at reforming Georgia’s outrageous civil forfeiture laws. You can do two things right now:
